How does the assessment occur?<\/h2>\n\n

The Writing subtest is assessed by licensed telc raters. In the case of disagreement, the marks awarded by the second rater are taken in preference. Spot checks are carried out at the telc head office. In such cases the telc rating becomes the final score.<\/p>\n\n

Criterion I: Content<\/h5>\n\n

Writing Part 1<\/strong> \n(Interactive Task with Guiding Points) \nAssessment is made on the basis of<\/p>\n\n

  1. The appropriate choice of type of text = formal\/semi-formal letter.<\/li>
  2. the inclusion of three guiding points or two \nguiding points and another aspect, whereby the \npoints should be referred to in detail and at \nsome length.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n

    Writing Part 2<\/strong> \n(Productive Task) \nAssessment is made on the basis of<\/p>\n\n

    1. the appropriate choice of type of text = informal email.<\/li>
    2. The completion of the task as a whole, whereby \nthe test taker should provide clear details and \nat some length.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n

      According to the criterion, the content is<\/p>\n\n

      A<\/td>appropriate in all respects.<\/td>5<\/td><\/tr>
      B<\/td>appropriate in most respects.<\/td>3<\/td><\/tr>
      C<\/td>mostly inappropriate.<\/td>1<\/td><\/tr>
      D<\/td>completely inappropriate.<\/td>0<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n
      Criterion II: Communicative Design<\/h5>\n\n

      Assessment is based on<\/p>\n\n

      1. the way the text has been organised.<\/li>
      2. the links between the sentences and between the parts of the text.<\/li>
      3. the range and variety of language used.<\/li>
      4. the appropriacy of the register.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n

        The communicative design of the letter is<\/p>\n\n

        A<\/td>appropriate in all respects.<\/td>5<\/td><\/tr>
        B<\/td>appropriate in most respects.<\/td>3<\/td><\/tr>
        C<\/td>mostly inappropriate.<\/td>1<\/td><\/tr>
        D<\/td>completely inappropriate.<\/td>0<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n

        Criterion III: Language<\/h5>\n\n

        Assessment is based on syntax, morphology and spelling. The letter contains<\/p>\n\n

        A<\/td>no errors or only one or two errors without affecting the communicative aim of the \nletter.<\/td>5<\/td><\/tr>
        B<\/td>a few errors without impairing the reader\u2019s understanding of the letter at one reading.<\/td>3<\/td><\/tr>
        C<\/td>errors that make it necessary to read the letter a number of times thus noticeably \nimpairing the reader\u2019s understanding of the communicative aim of the letter<\/td>1<\/td><\/tr>
        D<\/td>so many errors that the communicative aim of the letter is not fulfilled.<\/td>0<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n

Each text (Writing, Part 1 and Writing, Part 2) can be awarded a maximum of 15 points. If \ncriterion I and\/or criterion III are marked \u201cD\u201d, then the whole text receives zero points. \n \nCalculation of the score<\/strong> \nEach of the writing samples in the subtest Writing are awarded points according to the three criteria: \nContent, Communicative Design and Language. The points are awarded as follows: \nA=5 points \nB=3 points \nC=1 point \nD=0 points<\/p>\n\n

        The final score for Writing, Part 1 is multiplied by 3 and the final score for Writing, Part 2 is multiplied by 2. \nWriting, Part 1 is worth a maximum of 45 points and Writing, Part 2 is worth a maximum of 30 points.<\/p>\n\n
